Ramblin’ Rhyno: HVAC Myths — Busted
Editor’s Pick:
*”In the trades, half of what you hear is myth — and the other half you have to live to believe.” — Ramblin’ Rhyno
By the time we hit Episode 008 of HVAC R&D, it was time to have some fun and call out some of the biggest myths floating around our industry.
Because if you’ve been in HVAC for longer than a week, you’ve already heard some version of “the customer will always call you back” or “you should never upsell.”
Spoiler alert: Most of it’s nonsense.
“There’s no fairy tale in HVAC — just facts, hustle, and good habits.”
The “easy button” doesn’t exist.
Building a career — and a reputation — takes grind, skill, and a whole lot of lessons you learn the hard way.
“The fastest way to fail in HVAC is to believe everything you hear.”
You’ve got to filter advice the same way you filter dirty coils — clean out the junk and keep what’s useful.
Not everyone who’s been around a long time is worth listening to.
“If experience isn’t backed by results, it’s just repetition.”
Hearing “I’ve been doing this for 30 years” doesn’t mean much if you’ve been doing it wrong for 30 years.
Results matter. Period.
“Selling isn’t shady — if you’re offering real solutions.”
One of the biggest myths out there is that “selling” is a dirty word.
If you’re solving real problems with real solutions, you’re not selling — you’re serving.
“The only myth that matters is the one that says you can’t make it — and it’s a lie.”
The trades are still wide open for anyone who’s willing to show up, grind, and keep learning.
Forget the noise. Write your own story.
